New Delhi: A case of death under suspicious circumstances of 30-year-old Nazia Khanum, posted as Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in the Defense Ministry, has come to light in Bharthal area of Dwarka. On the morning of 21 August, his body was found hanging in the house. Family members allege that Nazia was facing alleged harassment at her in-laws' house since marriage. According to the family, she was also three months pregnant. Police have started investigating the matter and all aspects are being examined to find out the cause of death. Nazia's marriage took place with Azam Ali Khan on 11 April 2026 as per Muslim customs. Nazia, originally a resident of East Champaran, Bihar, started living with her husband in a flat in Bharthal village, Dwarka, after marriage.
Brother's allegation- problems had increased after marriage
Nazia's brother Shadab Khan has alleged that soon after her marriage, his sister was allegedly harassed by her husband Azam Ali Khan, mother-in-law Samina Nisha and father-in-law Babar Ali Khan. The brother claims that Nazia was abused and beaten and was also threatened with death and thrown out of the house. According to family members, Nazia used to tell her problems to her family over the phone. The family says that despite being pregnant, her problems did not subside.
News of death received at four in the morning
According to the family, around 4 am on August 21, a call came from Nazia's father-in-law and they were told that Nazia had committed suicide. As soon as the information was received, the family reached the flat in Dwarka. Nazia's body was found hanging there. After the incident, the family refused to accept the body and demanded an impartial investigation into the matter. The deceased's father Abdul Tauwab Khan and brother Shadab Khan recorded their statements before the Executive Magistrate and also complained to DCP Dwarka.
The family made many demands
The family members have demanded registration of an FIR in the case under relevant legal sections including dowry death, cruelty to women and abetment of suicide. Apart from this, they have demanded the medical board to conduct the post-mortem with videography, secure all possible evidence from the spot, get the mobile phone and call detail records checked and keep other electronic evidence safe. The family has also demanded that Nazia's pregnancy be clearly mentioned in the post-mortem report. The family members have raised questions on the investigation by the local police and have demanded a CBI investigation into the case. It has been told that Executive Magistrate (Bijwasan) Dinesh Rana has sent the original statement of the deceased's father to the SHO of Police Station Sector-23 Dwarka for necessary action.
Police said investigation into all aspects continues
According to the police, the matter is being investigated. There is no direct allegation regarding dowry in the statement recorded before the SDM. Police say that the husband and wife were living together and all aspects related to the incident are being investigated.
At present, whether Nazia's death was suicide or there was some other reason behind it will be clear only after investigation and post mortem report. The family's allegations are also being investigated. Only the evidence emerging in the case will reveal the real cause of death.
