Meanwhile, once again Pakistan’s prominent religious and political leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman criticized Asim Munir and raised many questions on him. Not only this, Maulana Fazlur has compared the current situation of Pakistan with the period of 1971.
Fazlur Rehman said that he believes in the strength of the army and its leadership, but the lessons of history cannot be ignored. Giving the example of December 1971, he mentioned the claims of the then military regime and the events that unfolded thereafter. He also asked questions to the government and the army regarding the ongoing tension in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Why did Maulana mention 1971?
Recalling the events of December 1971, Fazlur Rehman said that a day before the surrender to India, the then military ruler General Yahya Khan had addressed the people of Pakistan. According to him, it was claimed at that time that the Pakistani Army would continue the fight in every street, fields and mountains. However, Fazlur Rehman said that the very next day the Pakistani Army had to lay down its arms. In this context, commenting on the claims of the current military leadership, he said, “We have heard these big words even at that time.”
What issue was raised?
Maulana Fazlur Rehman also raised the issue of the problems of the common people of Pakistan. He questioned that when the people of the country are already going through serious difficulties, then why are they continuously being pushed into such situations. He said that amidst political and security related crises in the country, the government should clarify its policy and objectives before the public. According to him, continuing the current conditions for a long time can lead to serious consequences for the country.
What to say on Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa?
Fazlur Rehman specifically mentioned the situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He claimed that the situation in both the areas is not normal and war-like conditions are prevailing in many areas. Expressing concern over the continuous violence and bloodshed, he said that people have been protesting for a long time, but the government is not talking to them adequately. Fazlur Rehman warned that if a political solution to the grievances of the people is not found in any area and tension continues for a long time, elements demanding secession may benefit from it.
Maulana also raised the question in his statement as to what is the objective behind the current situation. He said that when violence and bloodshed continues in an area for a long time, it can also be a sign of the possibility of geographical changes in the future.
