Country. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has targeted the Central Government over the expenditure on maintenance of government bungalows of Union Ministers in Lutyens' Delhi. Citing information received through Right to Information (RTI), the party claimed that ₹547.68 crore was spent on the maintenance of government residences of ministers in the last 12 years. CJP says that such a huge amount could have been used to improve the basic facilities of government schools.
₹92 crore spent on maintenance of bungalows in 2025-26-
Citing a PTI report, the CJP said around ₹27 crore was spent on the maintenance of the official residences of Union ministers in 2014-15. This amount will increase to about ₹92 crore in 2025-26.
The party raised the question that when many government schools in the country still lack drinking water, toilets, electricity and other basic facilities, then why is such a huge amount being spent on the maintenance of luxurious government bungalows of ministers.
'Stop fixing bungalows, fix schools'-
CJP took a jibe at the government in a social media post, saying, 'Stop fixing your luxurious bungalows and fix the schools.' The party claims that about 10 new world-class government schools can be built with an amount of ₹92 crore.
According to the party, ₹133.9 crore was spent on the maintenance of ministers' bungalows between 2014 and 2019, ₹250 crore between 2019 to 2024 and about ₹174.5 crore between 2024 to 2026. Thus, the total expenditure in 12 years is reported to be ₹547.68 crore.
Issue related to 'Fix the School' campaign-
CJP has raised this issue amid its 'Fix the Schools' campaign. The party claims that under the campaign, a social audit of the condition of rural government schools is being conducted and problems like electricity, water, toilets, mid-day meal and movement of students are being brought to the fore.
CJP says that it is not a lack of funds for basic facilities in government schools, but it is a question of priority and will to spend government money.
Questions also raised regarding PM Cares Fund-
Earlier, CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke had raised questions about using the money in the PM Cares Fund to improve the facilities in rural government schools. According to him, the amount of PM CARES fund in 2024-25 is said to be ₹8,452.07 crore.
Deepke claimed that if around ₹8 crore was spent on building a modern school, then theoretically more than 1,000 schools could be built with this amount. However, this is a guess on their part.
BJP called the allegations political rhetoric-
The BJP hit back at the CJP's allegations, saying the PM CARES fund was created for emergency situations and disaster relief and demanding that it be used for schools would create confusion about the purpose.
Accusing CJP and Aam Aadmi Party of making political statements, BJP also challenged Abhijit Deepke to go to Punjab and see the condition of government schools there. In this way, from the expenditure on government bungalows to the PM Cares Fund, the political battle over the condition of schools has intensified.
