Jawai Dam, located in Pali district of Rajasthan, is one of the major reservoirs of the state. Built between the Aravalli hills and natural rocks, this dam is not only a source of water but is also very important for the water system, agriculture and tourism of Western Rajasthan. The area around it has today become famous for the presence of migratory birds and wildlife, especially leopards.
Was constructed in the 1950s
Jawai Dam was constructed on the Jawai River. Its construction started in the year 1946 and the project was completed after about 5 years in 1951. Its main objective at that time was to strengthen irrigation and water availability in Pali and surrounding areas.
The construction of Jawai Dam started during the reign of Jodhpur state. After independence, this project was taken forward during the formation of Rajasthan. The construction of the dam increased the availability of water for agriculture in the area and many villages got direct benefits from it.

Jawai River is one of the major seasonal rivers of Rajasthan. This river originates from the Aravalli mountain range and further joins the Luni River as a tributary. A large number of migratory birds also arrive around Jawai Reservoir during winter.
