Bihar News: The rising water level and rapid erosion of river Ganga in Bhagalpur district of Bihar is raising concerns. Located on the left bank of Ganga in Kharik block. Erosion took place in 110 meter area on 26th July
Due to rise in the water level of Ganga, the dam will be closed on 26 July 2026 due to undermining. Erosion about 110 meters in length near D-Nose Was seen. After this, rescue work was carried out day and night under the supervision of officials and the erosion was controlled at around 4 am on July 27. To strengthen the affected area, a six meter wide NC base of 110 meter length was prepared. Bamboo rolls and elephant legs were used along with this. As a precautionary measure, 25 sloping bed bars were also constructed in an area of 250 meters upstream of D-Nose.
30 meter portion was damaged on August 24
From July 26 to August 24, erosion occurred from time to time in different parts, after which efforts were made to keep the site safe by carrying out continuous flood fighting work. The river pressure downstream of E-Nose increased significantly from the night of 23 August. Due to severe erosion, at around 2 am on August 24 About 30 meter portion of Raghopur dam-cum-railway tagging dam was damaged.
2.50 lakh sand bags filled, 250 laborers deployed
To secure both the cut-ends to the affected area and prevent the spread of water. construction of ring dam Has been started. close to spot 2.50 lakh sand bags, 20 boats, 16 tractors, one Poklane and two JCBs. Have been made available. close to 250 laborers work day and night on war footing Are doing. According to the department, the situation is under control. Bhagalpur District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police are also inspecting and monitoring the site.

Request to open the gate of Farakka Barrage
A letter has also been sent to the GM of Farakka Barrage for speedy drainage of Ganga water.
