Tezzbuzz Desk- Mohammad Umar, the elder son of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, has received a big blow from the Allahabad High Court. The court rejected Omar's bail plea in a case related to extortion, demand of money and threat to kill. Considering the seriousness of the case, the court refused to grant him relief for the time being.
Mohammad Omar is currently in jail. There are allegations against him related to demanding money from a businessman, extortion and threatening. During the hearing of the bail plea before the court, the seriousness of the case and the charges available against the accused were considered. The High Court did not consider it appropriate to grant bail in the current circumstances.
Case registered in extortion case
A case has been registered against Umar and his brother Ali Ahmed for allegedly demanding extortion of Rs 5 crore from a builder in Prayagraj and kidnapping him. It is alleged that the builder was forcibly taken away and he was beaten and threatened. The court has already framed charges in this case.
The matter is related to the incident of October 2021. Complainant builder Mohammad Muslim had alleged that Atiq Ahmed's sons and their associates had kidnapped him and demanded extortion of Rs 5 crore. Apart from Umar and Ali, names of other accused were also revealed in the case.
Was granted parole on brother's death
Recently Umar and his brother Ali were granted custody parole from the court to attend the funeral of their younger brother Aban Ahmed. Aban died in a road accident on the Jhansi-Kanpur highway in August. The two brothers were allowed to attend the funeral under police protection and were instructed not to speak to the media. After completion of his parole period, Umar went back to jail. Now after the bail plea has been rejected by the Allahabad High Court, he will have to remain in jail for the time being.
Even after the death of Atiq Ahmed, the legal process of many criminal cases related to his family is going on. Further hearing will continue in the ongoing extortion and kidnapping case against Umar.
