New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary over phone on Wednesday. This conversation took place in view of the threat of floods in the state due to heavy rains and glacier burst in Nepal. During the phone conversation, Shah assured the Bihar government that the central government will provide all possible help to deal with any possible crisis arising out of this situation.
NDRF deployed to deal with any emergency
The Home Minister also gave instructions to make necessary preparations to deal with any emergency. He said that the National Disaster Response Force NDRF is being deployed to face any situation and provide assistance to the state authorities if needed.
The Central Government is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Bihar Government to ensure timely assistance and effective disaster response measures.
Shah's move is part of the central government's efforts to strengthen preparedness and ensure that adequate resources are available to deal with any flood-related emergency in the state.
8 killed in Nepal, massive devastation in Nuwakot and Dhading
Flash floods that hit parts of Nepal on Wednesday killed at least eight people and caused extensive damage to roads, bridges and power infrastructure in areas bordering Tibet, officials said.
According to local news, due to sudden rise in water in Bhote Koshi river, Nuwakot and Dhading districts of Nepal were submerged due to which many people are not traceable. It is being told that the flood water came from the Tibetan side of the border, which engulfed the villages and caused large-scale destruction.
Amidst the huge disruption caused by the sudden floods in Nepal, the Bihar authorities have intensified their preparations in view of the possibility of increase in water flow in low-lying areas.
Why increased alert in Bihar, Gandak and Kosi will be monitored
Several major rivers originating from Nepal pass through Bihar, including the Gandak, also known as Narayani, and the Kosi. Both these rivers originate from the Himalayan and Tibet regions and then flow into the plains of India.
The waters of Bhote Koshi and Trishuli meet further in Narayani and this becomes Gandak in India. For this reason, alert has been increased in West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Saran and Vaishali districts of Bihar. The Water Resources Department is continuously monitoring the water level at Valmikinagar Barrage so that the embankments can be protected in time.
