MS Dhoni reportedly approached Sun TV Network to buy a stake in CSK during IPL 2026. The former captain of the Indian cricket team apparently considered buying a share in his IPL team, Chennai Super Kings, during the IPL 2026 season.
The cricketer, who was injured and did not participate in IPL 2026, talked to CSK authorities about buying a stake in the IPL franchise. According to the report by Cricblogger, Dhoni and Sun TV network first discussed a deal, where the former would buy 25 per cent of CSK. The conversation was held verbally; no official request or proposal was submitted during the talks.
MS Dhoni, CSK Could Not Bridge Gap Over Stake
MS Dhoni later reduced his demand to 20%, but the CSK franchisee apparently did not want to give up more than 10%. Eventually, the franchisee offered only four per cent, but Dhoni held out for 18 per cent.
Their positions were far apart, and it became clear that the negotiations would not see a deal through to a happy ending. They had no common ground in sight, and Dhoni eventually failed to buy into CSK.
The discord apparently casts a long shadow over Dhoni's involvement with the team ahead of its IPL 2027 campaign. It comes against the backdrop of him being sidelined for the 2026 season due to injury.

The veteran turned 45 in July and officially announced his retirement from all forms of the game more than six years ago. Yet, Mahendra Singh Dhoni continues to stay one of the most sought-after and popular sports personalities in the country at large, and particularly among CSK fans. So, there is no doubt that the cricket world is waiting for his next big move with bated breath.
