Patna, Aug 26:
Thousands of students clashed with police in Patna on Tuesday during a protest over Bihar Public Service Commission examinations, with stone-pelting, lathi-charge and the use of water cannons marking the confrontation.
The protesters, including a large number of aspirants preparing for Teachers’ Recruitment Examinations scheduled to be conducted by the BPSC next month, had attempted to march towards the Chief Minister’s residence to press their demands.
Police stopped the protesters from proceeding further, triggering a confrontation. Students reportedly hurled stones at security personnel, while police responded with lathi-charge and water cannons to disperse the crowd.
The protest caused disruption in parts of the city as large numbers of students gathered and blocked key stretches.
The incident highlighted growing concerns among job aspirants over issues related to the upcoming BPSC examinations and the recruitment process.
Police said efforts were made to bring the situation under control, while further details on injuries and damage were being assessed.
