Young Sri Lankan batsman Sonal Dinusha has deprived India of victory by playing a courageous innings in the Colombo Test. This 25-year-old player, facing the Indian bowlers bravely on the fifth and last day of the match (27 August), scored unbeaten 133 runs in 264 balls, due to which Sri Lanka drew the match. India won the series 1-0.
The Sri Lankan team, which came to play follow-on, had scored 229 runs at the loss of 6 wickets till stumps on the fourth day. He had a lead of only 16 runs. It was believed that Team India would easily win by taking the remaining 4 wickets of Sri Lanka on the last day but Dinusha was adamant. He extended his innings by 7 runs and scored a century. This was his second century of the match. He had scored 103 runs in the first innings.
Dinusha, along with the lower order batsmen, tired the Indian bowlers a lot. In the end when Team India could not all out Sri Lanka in the second innings and then both the teams joined hands. Sri Lanka scored 429 runs losing 9 wickets in its second innings.
