Tezzbuzz Desk- The sudden flood in Nepal has caused huge devastation. The strong surge in Bhote Koshi river engulfed many settlements. So far, information has come out that 175 bodies have been recovered, while hundreds of people are still reported missing. Relief and rescue teams are continuously conducting search operations in the affected areas. At many places, houses, roads and bridges have been completely destroyed.
Huge wave of flood came without warning
It is being told that there was a sudden flood in the Bhote Koshi river passing through three districts of Nepal. According to local people, they did not even get a chance to recover. At the time when the flood occurred, people were busy in their daily work. There was no clear information of heavy rain in the area.
According to officials, the complete sequence of the incident is not yet clear. According to initial information, the flow of Lhende river, a tributary of Bhote Koshi, was disrupted after the glacier collapsed. Due to this, water started accumulating and suddenly a large amount of water flowed downwards.
The devastation started from Timura
The flood water first reached Timure area adjacent to Rasuwagadhi near the Tibet border. After this the water and debris moved downwards very rapidly. Within no time, there was devastation in many areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts of Nepal.
The flood brought with it large quantities of silt, stones and debris. The first floor of many houses was filled with silt. It has become difficult to reach the affected areas as roads and bridges have been washed away. Several meters of debris has also accumulated in community buildings and other public places.
Eyewitness narrated the horrifying story
A local man running a clothes shop in Trishuli market of Nuwakot said that the flood came very fast. People got very little time to move to a safe place. According to him, people from the administration had reached the area in the morning and had warned about the breach of the dam built on the Bhote Koshi river on the Tibetan side and huge amount of water coming in.
He told that some people saved their lives by running towards higher places, but many people were swept away in the strong current of water. According to eyewitnesses, his 18-year-old son and wife are also still missing.
The ground shook and then a huge wave of water appeared
Rajendra Dhungana, chief customs officer in Rasuwa, told the Kathmandu Post that he suddenly felt the ground shaking. After this, when he came out, a huge wave of water was seen coming rapidly towards Timure Bazaar from above. According to him, a cloud like smoke or dust was also visible behind the wave.
Search and rescue operations continue
After the flood, a large-scale relief and rescue operation is being conducted in Nepal. Search is on for people buried under the debris and missing civilians. However, rescue teams are facing difficulties due to damage to roads and bridges and heavy silt accumulation. Officials say that the actual figure of the number of missing people and the damage will be clear only after the relief operation progresses.
