On this tour to be held in November-December 2026, an exciting series of 2 test matches will be played between the two teams. This series is going to be do or die for Team India from the point of view of the World Test Championship (WTC). Before the start of the Test series, a limited overs series will be played between the two countries from October 22. During this period, a long series of 5 T20 International and 5 ODI matches will be played. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will also be seen playing in the ODI series.
Team India will host Australia
The schedule of the Indian team is going to be very busy immediately after the New Zealand tour. After returning from New Zealand, India will host Australia on their home grounds from January 2027. A 5-match Test series will be played between the two teams in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will be the last and biggest test for India in this WTC cycle.

If Team India had managed to win the Colombo Test against Sri Lanka, it would have got 12 points. With this, India's PCT would have increased to 63.33 in the WTC points table and would have reached the fourth position, but after the Colombo draw, India and Sri Lanka got 4 points each, after which Team India's points percentage i.e. PCT has decreased from 53.33% to 51.51%. Although Team India is still at fifth position in the points table of the World Test Championship, the team's difficulties have increased. This is because the Indian team has to play its remaining test matches with strong teams like Australia and New Zealand. India now has only 7 test matches left in the current cycle. To make it to the top 2 in the race for the final of WTC 2027, India will have to win both the matches of this series against New Zealand at any cost. If the Indian team loses points here, then its path to reach the final will become very difficult.
