Zara Larsson wasn’t exactly on board when her former label revealed plans to submit her for next year’s Grammys.
Despite her massive success over the past year, the 28-year-old Swedish singer doesn’t believe she belongs in the Best New Artist race at the 2027 Grammys, noting that she has been performing for more than 10 years.
In chat with Perfect Magazineon August 27, she shared, “I was speaking to my former label about this, and they were like, ‘Yeah, we’re going to see if we can put you in Best New Artist for the Grammys.’”
The Ambition hitmaker admitted she refused, saying, “And I’m like, ‘I don’t even want that. That would downplay the 13 years of me being an artist. I’m not a new artist.’”
Zara had already made her mark with songs such as 2015’s “Lush Life” and 2017’s “Symphony,” but her fifth studio album, Midnight Suncatapulted her to even greater notoriety after dropping in September.
She acknowledged that she has certainly noticed “a shift” lately, but she isn’t letting that change how she views her career as a whole.
“That’s why I like ‘breakthrough,'” she admitted. “It feels like the whole world is looking at me at the same time. Before, this song was successful over here, and another song a year later was successful over there. Now it feels like it’s all coming together quite nicely.”
