The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s Under-19 team for the home series against Australia. Aryaveer Sehwag, son of former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag and Anvay Dravid, son of former Indian captain and coach Rahul Dravid, have got a place in the 15-member team. However, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was not included in the team. 15 year old Vaibhav has performed brilliantly at a young age and has also debuted for India’s senior T20 International team against England.
The reason behind Vaibhav not getting a place in the team is not his performance, but a special rule of BCCI. In the year 2016, the board had made such a rule, under which no player, irrespective of the age limit, can participate in more than one Under-19 World Cup. Due to this rule, Washington Sundar could not play the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. Before this, players like Sarfaraz Khan, Sandeep Sharma and Vijay Jol have played more than one Under-19 World Cup. Vaibhav has played the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, so he will not be able to play in the next Under-19 World Cup.
The schedule will be like this against Australia
The first three ODI matches will be played between the Under-19 teams of India and Australia. These matches will be held in Rajkot on 18, 21 and 23 September. After this, two four-day matches will be played. The first match will be held in Rajkot from 27 to 30 September and the second match will be held in B Ground of Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from 5 to 8 October. The ODI team will be captained by Uttarakhand batsman Lakshya Raichandani, while Yashvardhan Chauhan will be the vice-captain. Yashvardhan will hold the captaincy and Lakshya will hold the vice-captaincy in red-ball matches.
Aryaveer and Anvay get place in ODI team
Aryaveer Sehwag and wicketkeeper batsman Anvay Dravid have been selected only in the ODI team. Aryaveer is currently playing for West Delhi Lions in the 2026 Delhi Premier League and has appeared in two matches so far. At the same time, Anvay had scored 101 runs in two ODI matches for India Under-19 during the Sri Lanka tour in July. India lost the ODI series 1-2, but won the red-ball series 1-0. Manal Chauhan and Chigurupathi Venkat have also been selected in the ODI team against Australia, while Sagar Virk, Anmoljeet Singh and Ishan Sood could not make it to the team.
