Auto-taxi driver organizations have sounded the bugle of agitation regarding nine demands including rising fuel prices and fare revision. People of Delhi-NCR may have to face major transportation problems in the first week of September.
Claim of one lakh auto-taxis being taken off the roads
Auto-taxi driver organizations have warned of a strike between 7 and 9 September. Along with Congress-backed organizations, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS)-backed organizations affiliated to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are also involved in the movement. Organizations claim that around one lakh autos and black-yellow taxis may participate in the strike. In such a situation, it is likely to have a major impact on the public transport system of Delhi-NCR.
All Delhi Auto Taxi Transport Congress Union and Auto Taxi Transport Congress Cell have called for a strike on September 7 and 8. According to Union President Kishan Verma, formal information in this regard will be given to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Chief Minister, Transport Minister, Transport Commissioner and Police Commissioner.
BMS supported organizations will go on indefinite strike from September 9
At the same time, BMS supported Auto Rickshaw Union and Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union have announced an indefinite strike from September 9. General Secretary of the organization Rajendra Soni said that in view of the rising prices of fuel, efforts are being made to negotiate with the government on many issues including fare revision and Driver Welfare Board. He alleges that time has not been found for the meeting for about one and a half years.
Financial burden increased due to increase in price of CNG
According to driver organizations, the price of CNG in Delhi has increased to Rs 87 per kg and in the last three months it has increased by about Rs 10 per kg. Apart from this, the cost of vehicle maintenance, insurance, spare parts and installments have also increased. The organizations say that there has been no revision in auto-taxi fares since 2023, so the fares should be increased immediately.
Demand on welfare board and bike taxi also
Drivers have demanded formation of Driver Welfare Board, ban on use of private bikes and transparency and relief in the process of permit, RC, fitness, license and challan. Organizations say that the government had announced the formation of a Driver Welfare Board, but it has not been formed yet.
