Police arguments

According to a report in The Times of India, after completing its initial investigation, the anti-vice team had filed a closure report in the special court under the POCSO Act stating that no further action can be taken in the case. The police had told the court that the video is from the year 2019 as per the digital camera recording data and the digital data found in it. Neither the identity of the minor girl nor her exact address and whereabouts can be found.

The husband and wife, who were suspected of helping the main accused in this case, also told the police during interrogation that nothing like this happened at their house and neither they nor the main accused had seen any such girl. On August 19, the judge of the special court flatly refused to accept this closure report of the police. The judge ordered that the case could not be closed and should be further investigated afresh. It was also said that its progress report will have to be submitted to the court within 4 weeks.

Arrest of main accused

After this strict order of the court, when the anti-vice team of the Central Crime Branch took the investigation forward, the police came to know that the elderly man seen in the video was actually industrialist Veermani. He is the founder of James Granites Company and lives in Adyar area of Chennai.

Further investigation by the police also revealed that Veeramani had taken a house on rent in Teynampet area of Chennai. He had given the responsibility of taking care of this rented house and handling the work to Mahendra Sinha and his wife Shanti. A minor girl worked in the same house and Veermani was a frequent visitor to that house. It was there that he did something wrong with that girl. These three people were arrested by the police on Saturday and sent to jail in judicial custody on the orders of the court.

Police Commissioner's instructions

After this matter came to light, Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj has given strict instructions to his subordinates. He has said that they should also investigate in depth whether the minor girl was targeted by any one person or whether more than one person had committed wrongdoing. Along with this, senior police officers have also set up an internal investigation to find out why this sensitive matter remained suppressed in the files for so long without any concrete action after the complaint was received in October 2025 and the pen drive came to light and why timely action was not taken in it.
