A film’s story often comes from different realities, and Indian filmmaker Meghna Gulzar had clarified that her upcoming film Dayra was not based on a single incident. The Raazi director had said the film’s subject was developed after looking at several cases from across the country.
During the trailer launch event in Mumbai, Meghna was asked if Dayrastarring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, was inspired by the 2019 Hyderabad rape-murder case.
Responding to the question, Meghna had explained that the film did not focus on only one case. She said the team had studied different incidents while creating the story.
“We are touching on so many delicate subjects that having just one perspective, ya sirf ek case ka data aur facts, would have been very restrictive,” Meghna said.
She further added, “It's not like it's happening in just one state or province. It's happening everywhere, and very frequently, which is the reason we're talking about.”
The filmmaker had also shared that the team had tried to find a common connection between different cases. She explained that the film had brought together various aspects while developing its narrative.
“We tried to take a common thread from many cases,” Meghna said while discussing the film’s approach.
Dayra featured Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles and was directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film had explored sensitive issues related to crime and the legal system.
The 2019 Hyderabad case involved a veterinary doctor who was raped and murdered near Shamshabad. The incident had received widespread attention across the country after the crime was reported.
As of now, the makers had continued promotions for Dayra ahead of its release.
