The EFL has said it is “disappointed” that two Carabao Cup third round matches will be rescheduled because of scheduling clashes with UEFA competition matches.
Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotpsur and Everton vs Wolves will both rescheduled owing to a clash with a UEFA Champions League match, while Wolves’ EFL Championship match with Portsmouth has also been consequently rescheduled.
The change comes because of a clash between the Everton-Wolves match and Liverpool’s home Champions League against Atletico Madrid. Liverpool and Everton cannot play home matches on the same evening because of police constraints, meaning that the Carabao Cup tied had to be moved from its initial date, September 9, to a week later.

Wolves-Portsmouth has now been mvoed to October 20.
“Over recent seasons the League has made a number of changes to accommodate the expansion of UEFA Club competitions – a decision which was made without adequate consultation with domestic leagues. These changes have included splitting Carabao Cup Round Three ties across two weeks, and implementing draw conditions for Round Three which prevent scheduling conflicts for Clubs playing in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
This makes UEFA’s unwillingness to cooperate all the more frustrating, not least for the supporters of the five Clubs that will now be inconvenienced as a result,” said the EFL in a statement.
Revised Carabao Cup third round fixtures:
Everton v Wolves — Moved from September 9 to September 16
Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur — Moved from September 16 to September 15
