Some time ago, due to rising inflation, it seemed that India's economy was making some losses this year. But the figures presented by the Ministry of Statistics and Programs (MoSPI) are surprising. According to this data, the Indian economy has maintained a good pace in the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27 (April to June). During this period, the country's real GDP has grown at the rate of 7.8 percent.

Today, Monday, August 31, MoSPI has released the GDP figures for the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27. According to which, there has been a jump of 10.3 percent in nominal GDP in the April-June quarter. According to the government, despite the ongoing economic challenges in the world, the Indian economy has maintained the pace of its development.

This time the GDP figures have been declared considering 2022-23 as the base year. The government had announced a new series of annual and quarterly calculations of GDP on 27 February 2026. After this, on June 5, 2026, the preliminary i.e. provisional figures of GDP for the financial year 2025-26 were announced.

Old figures also updated

The ministry has also updated the annual figures for the financial years 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25. For this, new data and figures obtained from various government sources have been used. Apart from this, GDP figures from the first quarter of the financial year 2022-23 to the fourth quarter of 2025-26 have also been updated. New data has also been included in the provisional GDP figures for the financial year 2025-26.

What is included in GDP figures?

Industrial production, prices, banking services and administrative data received from various government departments are included in the calculation of GDP. Along with GDP, the ministry has also released figures related to consumption, investment and other expenditures in the economy. These figures are given both on the basis of constant prices i.e. 2022-23 and current prices.
