On Monday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) took major action against encroachment around the historic Jama Masjid in the capital Delhi. Following the order of the High Court (Delhi High Court), the MCD team conducted a campaign to remove encroachments amid heavy security arrangements. During this period, illegal encroachments on government land and park land were demolished with the help of bulldozers.
Government land and park were encroached upon
It was told that some people had encroached on government land and park land around Jama Masjid. A hearing regarding the matter was held in the High Court. The court had ordered to free the government land from encroachment and remove illegal encroachment. Under this order, MCD took action on Monday.
According to a senior MCD official, the action to remove encroachments in and around Jama Masjid was started from Monday morning itself. The official said that encroachments on public places and parks are being removed. This campaign was conducted in the area around the historical monument. During the action, at least three parks in the area have been freed from encroachment. According to officials, these parks were occupied by encroachers for a long time. After the order of the High Court, the corporation started the action to vacate these places.
Encroachment removed from government land also
There were also complaints of encroachment on government land and public places around Jama Masjid. During the campaign, the MCD team removed illegal encroachments and vacated the government land. After the action, the debris from the encroachment was also removed from the spot and disposed of.
Campaign conducted amid heavy security
In view of the action to remove encroachment, tight security arrangements were made in the area. Security personnel were also deployed along with MCD officers and employees. The administration tried to maintain law and order during the campaign.
Action after High Court order
According to officials, this action of MCD is being taken in compliance with the instructions of Delhi High Court regarding encroachment and illegal construction in and around Jama Masjid. The court had asked the corporation to survey the illegal constructions and encroachments in the area and take appropriate action to remove them. After the order, the corporation identified encroachment in the area and started action.
Action amid deployment of police force
Adequate police force was deployed in the area during the removal of encroachment. A senior official said that action is being taken by the administration to remove encroachment near Jama Masjid. Adequate security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward situation. Jama Masjid is included among the major historical monuments of the Mughal period of Delhi. A large number of tourists and worshipers reach here every day. The area around Jama Masjid is very crowded and also a major business area. In such a situation, the administration paid special attention to security and law and order during the action.
