Delhi NCR Heavy Rain: The weather in Delhi and surrounding areas suddenly took a turn on Tuesday evening. After the humidity of the whole day, in the evening, dense dark clouds gathered in the sky and within no time it started raining heavily. Cool winds and showers dropped the temperature in the city, providing great relief to people from the sticky heat. Along with the national capital, this period of rain spread rapidly in many major cities of NCR also. Seeing this changed form of weather, India Meteorological Department i.e. IMD immediately took action and issued orange and yellow alerts for different areas. The department says that this warning has been given not to scare people, but to exercise caution and preparation.
Possibility of moderate to heavy rain in these areas
According to the Meteorological Department, moderate rain is expected in many parts of Delhi. These include areas of South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and North Delhi. The intensity of rain may be higher in these areas. Meteorologists believe that due to heavy rains, the problem of water logging in low-lying areas, intersections and under flyovers may arise. Sudden heavy rains increase the pressure on the drainage system, due to which water starts accumulating on the roads. Municipal Corporation and local administration have also been instructed to keep a watch on such sensitive places so that people do not have to face problems due to waterlogging.

Weather in other areas became pleasant due to light showers
In the areas of the capital where there is less risk of torrential rain, light to moderate rain showers are being seen. Light rain has been predicted in Central Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi and some other parts of North Delhi. The rain in these areas is making the atmosphere cool and pleasant without causing much disruption on the ground. People returning home from offices in the evening were seen enjoying the pleasant weather. The washed leaves of the trees and the street lights burning on the wet roads are giving a beautiful and peaceful view to the city.
Alert in Ghaziabad and Noida also, warning of thunderstorm and lightning
This series of rains is not limited to Delhi only. The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning for the districts of Western Uttar Pradesh. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms has been predicted in Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar i.e. Noida and Greater Noida. There is a possibility of strong winds and lightning in these areas during the next few hours. This rain can also become a cause of trouble for lakhs of working people traveling daily on the border of Delhi and UP. Due to increased slippage on roads and reduced visibility, traffic speed may slow down during evening peak hours.
What do the alert colors mean?
Colors have great importance in the warning system of the Meteorological Department. The orange alert issued by the department simply means that the situation should be monitored and one should be prepared to deal with any disturbance. Its objective is that people should plan their journey in advance and be alert. Whereas yellow alert only means to stay updated and aware of weather information. The administration has advised drivers to avoid standing under trees and electric poles during rains and maintain proper distance while driving.
Challenge of jam on roads and future forecast
Due to this sudden rain in the evening, queues of vehicles have started becoming long on the major roads of Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. Due to rain, the speed of vehicles has slowed down due to water logging on the roads. The traffic police is constantly working to control the situation and passengers are being advised to use alternative routes. Now it remains to be seen whether this period of rain continues throughout the night or stops in a few hours. The next bulletin of the Meteorological Department in the coming hours will make it clear how big a challenge Delhi NCR will have to face along with this relief.
