About 1.20 lakh cusecs of additional water has been released from Bansagar Dam in Madhya Pradesh through 8 gates on 02 September 2026 at 10:30 pm. In view of the possibility of the effect of the said additional water flow reaching the Chopan gauge site by late evening today, necessary preparations have been completed by the district administration.
In order to control the water level and discharge in Chopan, 2 additional gates of Rihand Dam will be opened at 8:00 am today. After this, about 77,000 cusecs of water will be released from a total of 7 gates of Rihand Dam. To balance the water flow before the excess water released from Bansagar reaches Chopan, 5 gates of Rihand Dam will be closed till 5:00 pm today and only 2 gates will be kept open.
Persistent confusion about the river and affected areas by officialsno, Villagers are being made aware
The water level and water flow situation is being continuously monitored by the administration. The concerned officers and teams of revenue, police and other departments are continuously visiting the river and surrounding areas and taking stock of the situation. People in the villages located around the Son River are being made aware not to go near the banks of the river and under any circumstances not to go near the increased water level of the river.
The administration is continuously monitoring the sensitive areas and giving information to the people at the local level regarding necessary precautions, so that any untoward incident can be prevented.
The District Magistrate appealed to the people of the district – do not go to the banks of the river, be cautious.
District Magistrate Charchal Gaur has appealed to the people of the district not to go unnecessarily near rivers, drains and reservoirs in view of the possibility of increase in the water level of Son River due to the release of excess water from Bansagar Dam. Especially the citizens living on the banks of Son River should take utmost care and prevent children and other family members from going near the river.
He said that the administration is constantly monitoring the situation and every change in the water level is being monitored. The residents of the district should follow the guidelines issued by the administration and do not pay attention to any kind of rumor and believe only the authorized information.
Efforts to control water level through phased water management
Keeping in mind the situation of water flow from Bansagar and Rihand dams, the district administration is taking water management action in a phased manner. Efforts are being made to control the excessive increase in water level and discharge in Chopan due to excess water coming from Bansagar by controlling the discharge from Rihand Dam.
The district administration is continuously monitoring the entire situation and necessary steps will be taken immediately as per requirement. There is an appeal to the residents of the district to cooperate with the administration, remain alert and completely avoid going near the river for safety reasons.
