On this occasion, the trend of decorating children as Bal Krishna or Kanha is also very much liked. If there is a Janmashtami program in your child’s school or you want to do a photoshoot at home, then there is no need to buy too many items for this. With the help of some things like yellow dhoti, small crown, peacock feather, flute and pot, a cute Kanha look can be given to the child.
1. Yellow dhoti and crown look
For the easiest and traditional look, dress the child in a yellow or yellow bordered dhoti. Put a small Krishna crown on the head and add a peacock feather to it. A small garland around the neck and a flute in the hand will complete the look. If the child does not feel comfortable in dhoti, then he can wear pajama along with yellow kurta.
2. Make Makhan Chor Kanha
Bal Krishna’s butter thief style looks very cute on children. Dress the child in dhoti and keep a small decorative pot near him. Some butter can be kept in it. If butter is not available, white cotton can also be used for photoshoot. You can also prepare the child like Kanha stealing butter by giving him a pot in his hand.
3. Flute and peacock feather look
Flute and peacock feathers are among the most special things in Kanha’s look. Dress the child in yellow, blue or cream colored traditional clothes. Add small flute and peacock feathers along with it. If you do not want to carry too much stuff, then a very cute look can be created with kurta-pajama, small crown and flute.
4. Make a pair of Radha-Krishna
If there are two children in the house, then they can be dressed like Radha-Krishna pair. Dress up a child as Krishna with yellow dhoti, crown, peacock feathers and flute. The second child can be given the look of Radha by wearing lehenga-choli, bangles and a small bindi. Keeping the same or matching color in the clothes of both will make the photos look more beautiful.
5. Simple and cute Kanha look
If the child does not like heavy clothes or too many accessories, then a simple look will be better. Wear yellow dhoti or ethnic kurta and put a small garland around the neck. Apply a light crown and peacock feathers on the head. If you want, you can also wear Krishna printed kurta or ethnic dress. This look will be comfortable for school functions also.
6. Bal Gopal Look with Jhula
The tradition of decorating Bal Gopal in a swing on Janmashtami is also special. The photo can be taken by making the child sit near a small swing. Make sure that the swing is strong and safe and do not leave the child alone.

The theme of cows related to the child form of Shri Krishna will also be good for children. Dress the child in traditional clothes, give him a flute in his hand and keep a small toy cow nearby. A village like atmosphere can be created by decorating the background with green colour. This theme can look especially attractive for photoshoots.

Kanha’s butter stealing form can also be shown in a slightly different style. Small handi, pot and decorative butter bowl can be kept around the child. The child can be asked to pose with his hand extended towards the pot. By including the crown, peacock feathers and flute in this look, the identity of Krishna will be visible in a better way.
10. Make traditional Krishna setup at home
If you want to do a photoshoot without much expense, then a small Krishna setup can be prepared at home. A yellow cloth background, some flowers, small pot, flute and peacock feathers will suffice. Dress the child in comfortable traditional clothes and apply light make-up or decoration as per his/her choice.
