New Delhi. In a big relief, Rouse Avenue Court has granted bail to senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendar Jain. Jain was arrested on August 18 by the Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in the Delhi Jal Board's sewage treatment plant tender scam. Udit Prakash Rai, former CEO and IAS officer of Delhi Jal Board, Ankit Srivastava, former contractual consultant of Delhi Jal Board, Nagendra Yadav, owner of M/s AN Enterprises, M/s Euroteck Environment Pvt. Ltd. Raja Kumar Kurra, owner of M/s Srijanhar and Pankaj Verma, proprietor of M/s Srijanhar have also been arrested in this case.
Satyendra Jain had filed a bail petition protesting his arrest. After completion of the hearing on 25th, the court had reserved its decision. It is alleged that irregularities were committed in the tender of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of Delhi Jal Board. The technical conditions of the tender were manipulated and bribes were taken. Such technical conditions were laid down in the tender that M/s Euroteck Environment Pvt. Ltd. Only the company should get the contract.
While seeking bail of Satyendra Jain in Rouse Avenue Court, his lawyers N Hariharan and Vivek Jain had said that the client was continuously cooperating in the investigation, hence there was no need to arrest him. The decision to increase the capacity of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) was taken on the basis of the recommendation of the technical committee. While opposing the bail, ACB had claimed that Satyendra Jain is a habitual criminal and the investigation of the case is in the initial stage. There is evidence against Jain, hence he should not be granted bail. Public Prosecutor Manish Rawat also said, contrary to the defense's argument, that Satyendar Jain was not cooperating in the investigation.
