And the wait is over for Mirzapur fans, as they are in for a treat. After three successful seasons on Prime Video, Mirzapur: The Movie was released in theatres on Friday, September 4. The film follows the same premise: the quest for the throne of Mirzapur as old enemies resurface and new threats emerge. The film’s story is set in the middle of the first season and picks up after the sixth episode. Fans will therefore get to see many characters who have since died on the show.

Several viewers appreciated the dialogues in Mirzapur: The Movie, saying that the film’s aura stays intact. One person who watched the first-day-first-show shared a review on X and seemed mighty impressed with the dramatic dialogues in the first half.
“#mirzapur interval. Now this is what you call fan service. 1 se 1 dialogue hai sab has has ke pagal, full seetie and hooting. The story is fully set up now; let’s see how it ends. The katta fight in the beginning was very good in raw style (sic),” the person wrote on X.
A user shared in his Mirzapur interval review, “Pankaj Tripathi is excellent as always. Jitendra Kumar seems to be a misfit in the world, and it’s not about his performance but where he comes from. Casting him in this role, earlier played by Vikrant Massey, would’ve felt natural because Jitendra has played shades of a similar character well earlier but since he is in a completely different world as an actor this time, it’s not completely convincing. It feels as if Jeetu Bhaiyya is playing Bablu now. The solution could have been experimenting with a slightly darker character. The pre-interval scene sets the right expectations for the 2nd half.”

Mirzapur: The Movie has received an enthusiastic early review from Its Cinema, which called the film a “peak mass entertainer” and awarded it 3.5 stars. The review read, “The iconic web series gets a big-screen upgrade – and the result is a roaring, ruthless, razor-sharp entertainer that works big time… SURE-SHOT HIT.”
X user shared a Mirzapur interval review that read, “It’s a celebration for the fans as watching the story and characters on big screen definitely feels like an experience. There screenplay is loaded with moments which bring house down with laughter, the performances are very good, action and background score elevates the experience. Ravi Kishan is a fabulous addition. His entry scene is fabulous and in fact his character too seems very well written and adds to the narrative. Divyenndu Sharma seems a bit underutilised so far but his (Munna Bhaiyya’s) confrontation scene with JP Yadv is where the film peaks. Ali Fazal is too good and his entry got maximum cheers from the audience.”
Meanwhile, Mirzapur: The Movie has cleared a crucial last-minute legal hurdle as the Allahabad High Court refused to stay the film’s theatrical release, allowing the Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu Sharma-starrer to hit cinemas on September 4. The PIL had alleged that the Mirzapur franchise negatively portrays the real-life Uttar Pradesh district by associating it with violence, crime, obscenity and derogatory content. The court has adjourned the hearing by four weeks, meaning the film can continue its theatrical run for now.
The film is expected to take a bumper opening at the box office. It sold more than 3.20 lakh tickets for its first day during advance booking. According to Sacnilk, during advance booking, Mirzapur: The Movie earned Rs 9.19 crore gross without block seats and Rs 12.55 crore gross with block seats.
