To tie. There is news of great relief for consumers taking electricity connections in Uttar Pradesh. UPPCL has simplified the process of new electricity connections up to 50 KW. Now it will not be mandatory to get inspection from Electrical Safety Directorate and obtain NOC for such connections. Apart from this, the condition of obtaining completion certificate from the licensed contractor has also been removed.
Now consumers will be able to complete the process of electricity connection by giving self-declaration form. Apart from domestic consumers, this is expected to provide a lot of relief to shopkeepers, farmers and small businessmen. Those taking electricity connections for works like flour mill, welding machine, small factories and private tube wells will get special benefit.
In the self-declaration, the consumer will have to state that the electrical wiring has been done by a recognized contractor and is in accordance with the safety standards of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and BIS. This will reduce both the time and paperwork required for connection.
However, in special cases like hospitals, schools, marriage halls, hostels and places where more than 100 people gather, the system of security check and NOC will remain in force as before. According to officials, the new process aims to save consumers from unnecessary departmental hassles and speed up the process of electricity connection.
