'Belonging: A Journey of Love' also offers a unique perspective of India's journey from the inside. Earlier, the responsibility of publishing this book was with Penguin Random House India. However, Penguin India refused to publish the book in India. The reason for this is said to be that the publication had asked for some editorial changes in the book but Sonia Gandhi was not ready for these changes. Because of this, Penguin India withdrew from publishing the book.

With the withdrawal of Penguin India, discussions started regarding the name of HarperCollins. It was said in the media report that HarperCollins India is ready to publish and distribute this book of Sonia Gandhi and a final decision in this regard can be taken very soon. Now HarperCollins India itself has confirmed the publication of this book by Sonia Gandhi. Let us tell you that the international edition of this book of Sonia Gandhi is being published by 'Alfred A. Knopf' which is a part of Penguin Random House. The cancellation of the deal by Penguin India was criticized by Congress.
