New Delhi .Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, US Vice President JD Vance has said many important things regarding the strategy of Iran, China and America. Vance described China as a more responsible country than Iran and claimed that Beijing is ready to cooperate with the US effort to isolate Iran economically. His statement has come at a time when there is tension in the region and concern about the security of sea routes.
America has started Operation Economic Outcast to increase economic pressure on Iran. Questions are being raised regarding this campaign as to how effective the efforts to isolate Iran economically will be without China's cooperation. In this context, Vance was asked about China's role.
Vance said that the Chinese government is ready to cooperate with the US in this matter. However, he also acknowledged that there are many policy differences between Washington and Beijing. Despite this, he described the good relations between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping as important.
In calling China more responsible than Iran, Vance compared the behavior of the two countries in international disputes. He said that China is not a country that keeps firing on commercial ships to make its point in any international dispute. The remarks came in the context of tensions related to maritime activities and the security of merchant ships in the Hormuz area.
Vance also said that America is getting cooperation from many other countries. Mentioning Turkey, Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Gulf countries, he said that these countries are taking steps to help American efforts at different levels.
According to the US Vice President, some countries may avoid clarifying their position publicly, but in private conversations they are expressing concern about Iran's activities. Vance indicated that the support America receives from these countries is important amid the ongoing developments in West Asia.
Vance also said that many options are open regarding further American action against Iran. He said that the Trump administration also keeps the option of covert steps along with economic, military and diplomatic measures. However, he refused to tell what further steps America was going to take.
Vance said it would not be appropriate to make public in advance US plans to put pressure on Iran. According to him, if information about the President's strategy and possible steps is revealed in advance, it may affect his ability to take decisions.
Vance expressed special concern about Hormuz. He said that if people associated with Iran continue to take action against commercial ships in the region, it could have a global impact. He warned that such a situation could push the entire world towards an energy crisis.
Vance's comments indicate that the US is trying to increase pressure on Iran as well as gain the cooperation of China and other countries in West Asia. Although differences remain between China and America, the US administration considers possible cooperation on the issue related to Iran as important.
At present, Vance has not revealed America's next action. In such a situation, economic pressure on Iran, the situation in the Hormuz region and the possible role of China may remain the major aspects of the developments in West Asia in the future.
