New Delhi: A big fall in the price of sugar was recorded in the domestic wholesale commodity market last week. Sugar became cheaper by an average of Rs 287 per quintal in a week and fell to Rs 5,687 per quintal on the weekend. The average price of sugar in the retail market also declined by Rs 2.36 to Rs 61.52 per kg.
Along with sugar, there was also softening in the prices of rice and wheat. On the other hand, the prices of edible oils remained bullish, while the pulses market witnessed fluctuations depending on different commodities.
The price of jaggery in the wholesale market increased by Rs 10 per quintal last week. The average price of rice declined by Rs 13 to Rs 4,121 per quintal over the weekend. Wheat also became cheaper by two rupees to Rs 2,865 per quintal. However, the price of flour increased by Rs 12 per quintal and reached Rs 3,337 per quintal.

Both rise and fall were seen in the pulses market. The average price of chana dal increased by Rs 29 per quintal and the price of tur dal increased by Rs 22 per quintal. Urad dal also became costlier by Rs 5 per quintal.
In contrast, the price of moong dal decreased by Rs 30 and that of masoor dal by Rs 15 per quintal.
Rise in prices of edible oils
The rising trend in edible oils continued last week. The average price of palm oil increased by Rs 210 per quintal and that of sunflower oil by Rs 100 per quintal.
Mustard oil became costlier by Rs 57 and groundnut oil by Rs 56 per quintal. At the same time, an increase of Rs 25 per quintal was recorded in the price of soya oil and Rs 22 per quintal in the price of vegetable oil.
