Bhavnagar. Questions are being raised regarding the action taken after the video surfaced of police beating of an accused of murder of a live-in partner in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. The incident took place at a time when the police was reconstructing the murder incident at the scene. Meanwhile, accused Faisal Lakhani was seen being dragged with ropes and beaten with sticks.

Police Inspector DP Unadkat of Neelambag police station defended the action and said that considering the brutality of the murder and the damage done to the police's image, the police had to go a step further in this case. Describing it as a very serious matter, he said that after the incident, people's trust in police and law and order was affected.

In the video that surfaced on Saturday, Faizal Lakhani was tied with ropes and policemen are seen beating him with sticks while dragging him around the incident site. This action took place when the police was reconstructing the incident as part of its investigation. Police Inspector DP Unadkat said that the accused had attacked the woman in a public place and after the video of the incident surfaced, questions were raised on the role of the police.

The police officer also claimed that the incident had damaged the reputation of the police and that is why strict action was taken against the accused.

Kajal Baraiya and Faizal Lakhani were living together on a footpath in Bhavnagar for about seven years. According to the police, many serious criminal cases including robbery have been registered against Faizal in the past. After coming out of jail, Faizal reportedly learned that Kajal was in a relationship with his acquaintance Ravi. After this, there was a dispute between the two on Thursday. It is alleged that Faizal attacked Kajal and Ravi. Seriously injured Kajal was admitted to Government Sir T Hospital, where she died during treatment. After this, the police arrested Faizal on charges of murder on Friday.
