New Delhi. Taking major action in the case of building collapse in Satya Niketan, Delhi, the police have arrested PG operator Hariram Gupta, his wife Urmila Gupta and son Mahesh Gupta. So far seven people have died in the accident, while five others are injured. According to the police, contrary to initial information, the investigation has revealed that the family's role was not limited to just the paper ownership of the building, but they also had active participation in the operation of the PG.
According to the police, Hariram Gupta and his son Mahesh Gupta used to run the PG, while the name of Urmila Gupta is mentioned as the owner in the documents of the building. After the accident, the three accused had fled from their house in Gurugram. Later the police arrested him from Bhiwadi area of Haryana.
Confirmation of connectivity in operation even with electricity connection.
According to the investigating officers, the electricity connection of the concerned building was in the name of Hariram Gupta and Mahesh Gupta. Police are considering this as one of the important facts confirming their direct connection with the operation of PG. Investigation has also revealed that the basement of the building was flooded last year. After this, repair and renovation work was being done in the basement. During this time the building collapse incident occurred.
Viral rent agreement also investigated
Police are also investigating a copy of a rent agreement being circulated on social media. It is being told that some provisions related to the responsibilities of the building owner are mentioned in the agreement. The investigating officers are now trying to find out at whose behest and under what circumstances these conditions were included. Mahesh Gupta will also be questioned in this regard.
Does the family have any other PG or building?
According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, at present the investigation has revealed that the family was running a building and PG in Satya Niketan. However, the police are also investigating whether there are other buildings or PGs owned or operated by the family.
There is no possibility of anyone being trapped under the debris.
On September 6, a five-storey building collapsed in Satya Niketan. After the accident, teams of NDRF, Delhi Police, Fire Department, District Administration and Health Department jointly conducted relief and rescue operations. Many people were pulled out from the debris and taken to the hospital. So far, seven people have been confirmed dead and five injured in the accident. The condition of three of the injured is said to be serious. Police have confirmed that the rescue operation has been completed and said that there is no possibility of any other person being trapped under the debris. A detailed investigation is underway to determine negligence and responsibility in the accident.
Five MCD officers already suspended
Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) has also taken action in the matter. MCD has suspended five of its officers after the accident. Now the police investigation is investigating the PG operation, condition of the building, repair work and the role of the responsible people.
