By-elections announced on 6 seats in 5 states, voting on 6th October, result will come on 9th

New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced the dates for by-elections on six vacant seats in the country. These include five assembly seats from four states and one union territory and one Lok Sabha seat from Assam. Voting on all these seats will be held on 6 October 2026, while the counting of votes will take place on 9 October.

According to the schedule of the Election Commission, the notification for the by-election will be issued on September 9. Candidates will be able to file their nominations till 16 September. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on September 17 and candidates will be able to withdraw their names till September 19. The entire election process will be completed by October 11.

In which assembly constituencies will by-elections be held?

The five assembly seats include Madurantakam and Dharapuram seats of Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, by-elections will also be held on Thattanchavadi of Puducherry and Rejinagar and Nandigram assembly seats of West Bengal. At the same time, by-election will also be held on Naugaon Lok Sabha seat of Assam. With the announcement of elections on these seats, political activities are expected to intensify in the respective areas.

Seats became vacant due to resignation of public representatives

According to the Election Commission, by-elections are being held on these six seats due to the resignation of the concerned MPs and MLAs. Naugaon Lok Sabha seat of Assam fell vacant after the resignation of MP Pradyut Bordoloi. These seats became vacant after the resignation of MLA Maragatham Kumaravel from Madurantakam assembly seat of Tamil Nadu and P. Satyabhama from Dharapuram seat. Rezinagar seat of West Bengal fell vacant after the resignation of MLA Humayun Kabir and Nandigram seat Suvendu Adhikari.

Thattanchavady assembly seat of Puducherry is also won by MLA N. It became vacant after the resignation of Rangasamy. Now voting will be held on October 6 to elect new public representatives on all these seats and the results will be declared on October 9.
