Sea: The number of deaths due to poisonous liquor has reached 22 in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. The situation worsened after simultaneous deaths in several villages of Banda area. In some places, stoves were not lit in the houses and in some places many people from the same family were burnt. On the other hand, the number of patients in Banda Hospital increased so much that there were less beds.

People's health started deteriorating from Saturday. After this a large number of people were brought to the hospital. On Sunday, more than 100 patients were admitted to Banda Community Health Center alone. Serious patients were sent to BMC of Sagar. The health department team also reached the affected area in the morning. Under the leadership of CMHO Dr. Devesh Pataria, camps were organized in the villages and information about sick people was collected from door to door.
There is less space in the hospital, two patients on one bed
There are only 30 beds in Banda CHC. As the number of patients increased, at many places two people had to be kept on the same bed. Additional doctors had to be called from BMC. The situation can be gauged from the fact that the hospital's mortuary was even short of space to keep dead bodies. Postmortem was also delayed. According to family members, even after death on Saturday evening, postmortem of some bodies could not be done till the next afternoon. Due to limited arrangements in the mortuary, the dead bodies had to wait for hours.
There was silence in the villages, many funeral processions were heard simultaneously

There is mourning after the deaths in many villages including Gugra Khurd, Bamura and Nauraj. At some places, several bodies from the same village arrived for the last rites. People say that illegal liquor business was going on for a long time, but due to the fear of powerful liquor traders, they could not protest openly. According to local people, different locations were set up in the villages for the supply of liquor. It is also being claimed that a large number of liquor pouches are being sold daily in Gugra Khurd. The price is said to be around Rs 70 to Rs 120.
BJP leader accused of supplying liquor
During the investigation, the name of BJP leader and Titarwara Sarpanch Chandu Singh Rajput has also come to light. Some people from the villages of the deceased alleged that vehicles of contractors used to reach the village at night and liquor was supplied through them. These allegations are being investigated. Minister in-charge Rajendra Shukla reached Sagar on Sunday evening after the deaths due to poisonous liquor. He held a meeting with the officials and took information about the action taken so far. Additional Chief Secretary Health Deepali Rastogi also reached Sagar late in the evening.
The only breadwinner of the house also left
Patan resident Roshan Singh Lodhi also died in this accident. He was the only earning member of the family and used to work as a laborer to take care of his wife, two children and grandmother. Information about one of his children being disabled has come to light. The family has demanded financial assistance from the administration.

Chhapri resident Shyam Bai has also died. According to his son Vitthal Ahirwar, his health deteriorated after drinking alcohol and he complained of chest pain. He died during treatment in BMC.
Kailash Ahirwar, 40, of Chapari also lost his life. It was told that he had consumed alcohol on Saturday. 33-year-old Krishna Kumar Lodhi, resident of Puppet, was brought to BMC after his condition deteriorated, where he died.
35-year-old Bhagwan Singh Lodhi also died in Gugra Khurd. A day before this, his elder brother Ujiyar Singh had lost his life. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the village due to continuous deaths in the family.
According to a media report, 112 people are still admitted in the hospital due to drinking alcohol. In which 89 people are admitted in Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar, 16 people are admitted in District Hospital, Sagar and 7 people are admitted in Banda Civil Hospital.
The administration is now busy investigating the supply of liquor, the cause of deaths and the entire network. After the accident, surveillance of the health department has been increased in the affected villages.
