Patna: The flood crisis in Bihar is becoming increasingly serious. More than 29 lakh people are affected by floods in 13 districts of the state. Many villages have lost contact with other areas, while traffic has been affected due to roads being submerged in water. Flood water has reached houses and courtyards at many places. The administration is busy in providing relief and rescue operations and providing essential goods and health facilities to the affected people.
Impact of flood in 13 districts
The effect of flood is being seen in Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria and Arwal. 438 gram panchayats of 77 blocks of these districts are affected by floods. People are being evacuated to safe places in many areas.
However, there is hope of some relief in the coming days due to lowering of water level in some parts of Ganga, but many other rivers are still flowing above the danger mark.
Situation worsened from Patna to Bhagalpur
The water level of Ganga in Patna has come down from the record level, but Punpun river is still far above the danger mark. In Katihar, a large population in the confluence area of Ganga and Kosi is surrounded by floods. Bagmati river has increased the problems in Diara areas of Khagaria.

Traffic is affected due to water logging on National Highway-80 in Bhagalpur. Flood water has also reached many houses in Bariyarpur of Munger. The situation has become worrying due to the increasing spread of Ganga in Badhara area of Bhojpur.
Broken dam increased the problem
After the breaking of the dam of Mahi river in Saran, the water has rapidly moved towards the residential areas. At the same time, the water of Harohar river has spread in many panchayats in Shekhpura. Along with homes, schools and Anganwadi centers have also been affected by this.
Treatment in schools and panchayat buildings
To provide health facilities to the flood affected people, temporary medical centers have been set up in schools and panchayat buildings at many places. Along with the deployment of doctors and nurses, essential medicines are also being made available.
The administration is constantly monitoring the water level of major rivers including Ganga, Kosi, Gandak, Bagmati, Punpun and Ghaghra. The work of delivering relief material and taking people to safe places is going on.
