Prayagraj. Allahabad High Court has rejected the bail application of Bareilly riots accused Maulana Tauqeer Raza. Justice Ashutosh Srivastava of Allahabad High Court, while rejecting the bail plea of Tauqeer Raza, said that the record shows that the petitioner took advantage of the Friday prayers to fulfill his religious and political interests and asked the people of Muslim community to gather. Tauqeer Raza is in jail since 13 October 2025.
Allahabad High Court said that Tauqeer Raza called such a big meeting without taking permission from Bareilly administration. The court said that the petitioner tried to argue that the call for gathering of people at Islamia Inter College grounds was canceled due to lack of approval and imposition of Section 163 of the BNS, but the fact is that the Muslim community marched in large numbers. When the police stopped them, they beat them up and also damaged properties. Such work cannot be allowed. The court said that after the incident, people were thanked by Maulana Tauqeer Raza and the work was praised. This also cannot be justified.
In this case, the court considered the argument of the Additional Advocate General of UP as strong that the provocative slogan raised during the violence in Bareilly was a challenge to the rule of law and the sovereignty and unity of India. The High Court said that the charges against the petitioner are yet to be framed. After considering all the facts the bail petition is rejected. The prosecution says that on 26 September 2025, Maulana Tauqeer Raza had asked people of a particular community to gather. On this, a crowd of 200-250 people gathered and moved towards Shyamganj intersection of Bareilly. The crowd raised provocative slogans. Didn't listen to police warning. Some people became aggressive. Stones and bottles filled with acid were thrown at the police. Firing was also done. This created an atmosphere of terror. Two officers were injured. After which the police had to open fire in the air.
