New Delhi. The Delhi High Court today, Tuesday, September 8, refused to immediately hear the PIL seeking direction to ensure hostel facilities for students in every college affiliated to Delhi University. The division bench of Chief Justice 'Devendra Kumar Upadhyay' and Justice 'Tejas Karia' made it clear that no such interim order can be issued immediately.

Strong comment from the court
The petitioner's lawyer 'Vimal Tyagi' had requested for immediate listing of the matter, on which the bench said, “Can such a direction be given through an interim order? You file your petition duly, it will automatically be listed tomorrow i.e. on Wednesday. Why are you wasting your time unnecessarily? Apart from this, the court also took cognizance that another PIL related to the same subject has already been heard on Monday. The lawyer argued that in his petition There is a separate demand not for compensation but for making hostels mandatory in every college, yet the court decided to hear it on Wednesday as per the procedure.
Controversy intensified after Satya Niketan accident
Let us tell you that this petition has been filed after the collapse of a 5-storey Boys PG building in Satya Niketan area of Delhi, in which 7 people i.e. mainly students died. Taking suo motu cognizance of this incident, the High Court on Monday reprimanded MCD and Delhi University. The court had said that the university does not have enough hostels for students coming from outside, due to which they are forced to stay in unsafe private PGs. Also, the court has ordered MCD to inspect all the PG hostels under its jurisdiction and submit the report within a week.
