Delhi Capitals (DC) have dismissed speculations about the trade of experienced wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul. DC said that Rahul is not going anywhere. For the last two weeks, there has been speculation on social media about Rahul joining Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, there was no official conversation between DC and KKR. DC included Rishabh Pant in the squad after trading Kuldeep Yadav to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after IPL 2026. With the presence of Pant and Rahul, DC has two wicketkeepers and two possible captaincy options. By the way, despite poor performance in the 2025 and 2026 seasons, Axar Patel is likely to take charge of Delhi in IPL 2027.
‘KL Rahul always puts himself before himself…’
Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal broke his silence after speculations regarding Rahul. He called 34-year-old Rahul a team player. Jindal wrote on social media platform ‘X’, “KL is clutch for Delhi Capitals. He is one of the nicest people I know. He always puts the team before himself. We still have unfinished business to complete and we will work hard together to make Delhi feel proud.” Responding to Jindal’s post, Rahul wrote, ”Thank you, eagerly waiting for the coming season.” The Delhi franchise has not won the IPL trophy yet. DC was ranked sixth in the points table last season.
KL Rahul created a stir for DC
Since joining DC in 2025, Rahul has emerged as one of the most reliable batsmen of the franchise. He scored more than a thousand runs for Delhi in two seasons. He scored 539 runs in IPL 2025 and 593 runs in the next season. He was the highest run scorer for DC last season. He stood seventh in the overlist. He played a brilliant unbeaten 152 runs against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. He hit nine sixes while batting at a strike rate of 226.9. Pant is expected to resume wicketkeeping duties in DC. In such a situation, Rahul will have a chance to completely focus on his batting and establish himself as a specialist in the top order. Pant made his IPL debut for Delhi in 2016 but he moved to LSG in 2025. LSG’s performance under his captaincy was disappointing, following which he returned to DC.
