Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta once again reached AIIMS on Tuesday and met the families of those injured in the Satya Niketan PG accident. 7 people died in the accident. Meanwhile, while talking to the media, the Chief Minister said that another dangerous building located right next to the building where the accident took place will be demolished on Wednesday. The Chief Minister said that after the accident, investigation is also being done regarding the safety of the surrounding buildings. He has given instructions to demolish another dangerous building located near the incident site. Also, a compensation of Rs 5 lakh has been announced for the people injured in the accident.
Financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the injured
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reached AIIMS Trauma Center to meet the people injured in the building accident. After meeting the injured and their families, the Chief Minister announced that an assistance of Rs 5 lakh will be provided from the relief fund for financial help to the affected people. The CM has instructed the administration to check the safety of the buildings around the accident. He said that if any building is found dangerous during the investigation, then action should be taken to remove it as per need. The Chief Minister made it clear that there will be no compromise on people's safety.
7 people died due to building collapse
Seven people were killed when a 50-year-old five-storey building collapsed in Delhi's Satya Niketan area on Sunday afternoon. Three people injured in the accident are currently admitted in the hospital in critical condition. The building was being used as a paying guest (PG) for boys. The police have registered an FIR in the case and arrested the building owner Urmila Gupta, her husband Hariram Gupta and son Mahesh Gupta. The police are now searching for the contractor who was carrying out the repair work to fix the leakage problem in the basement of the building. In the case, Patiala House Court on Monday sent Hariram Gupta and Urmila Gupta to judicial custody for 14 days, while their son Mahesh Gupta has been sent on police remand for two days. Police are also investigating the causes of the accident and possible negligence in the repair work.
Government will provide financial assistance to the injured and victim families
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that after the accident, 12 people were taken out in injured condition, out of which seven have died. Two laborers are also among the dead. He told that an injured laborer is undergoing treatment in the hospital. He has suffered serious leg injuries, but his condition is currently fine. The Chief Minister said that two children admitted in the hospital are completely fine and will be discharged on Tuesday, while one child is admitted in the ICU and his condition remains critical. Rekha Gupta also met the parents of the injured children and assured them that they would be provided the best treatment. He said that the Delhi government will also provide financial assistance to the families of children and laborers injured in the accident. The government has assured to provide all possible help to the affected families.
The government made arrangements to send the dead bodies
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the families who lost their children in the accident have left Delhi with the dead bodies. He said that all necessary arrangements were made by the government to send the dead bodies to their native places and the administration is in constant touch with the families of the victims. The Chief Minister also informed that another building located right next to the building where the accident occurred has been declared dangerous and unsafe. This building will be demolished on Wednesday. The government has also given instructions to take necessary action regarding the security of the surrounding buildings.
5 MCD officers suspended, orders for inspection of buildings
After the Satya Niketan building accident, action has also been taken against MCD officials. The Municipal Corporation has suspended four engineers including South Zone Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar. The suspended engineers include Superintending Engineer Ranbir Singh, Executive Engineer Lalit Kumar Goyal, Assistant Engineer Sunil Chauhan and Junior Engineer Ashish Kumar. After the accident, MCD has ordered inspection of buildings across Delhi. In particular, buildings violating the prescribed limits of height and floor will be investigated. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also directed officials to conduct safety checks of all five-storey structures in Delhi and seal them if necessary.
