Regular use of shampoos full of artificial ingredients can destroy the natural smoothness of the hair. So many people suggest using Ritha. Reetha, another name for 'soap-nut', is a tree whose fruit contains the triterpenoid saponin. It is a type of natural surfactant. That is, when mixed with water, foam is formed from it. It looks like soap suds, but has the cleansing power of soap.

Ritha tree grows well in sandy soil. Choose high quality seeds. Care should be taken to ensure that sufficient moisture and adequate light reaches the part of the garden in which the reetha tree is planted. But Reetha cannot grow well in small sized tubs. So if there is a lot of space in the garden then you should think about planting this tree. This tree can usually grow to about 12–15 meters tall. Ritha tree takes about 4-5 years to flower. So if you don't have a special inclination towards gardening, you may not want to take care of such a plant. A month and a half after the flowering, the tree begins to bear fruit. It takes another four to five months for the fruit to ripen.
Commonly, the peel of the fruit is used as a hair wash. For this first take 4-5 dry rithas. Break the fruit and discard the inner seed part and keep the peel aside. Take two cups of water in a bowl and soak the peeled fruit peel overnight. Next day take some water in a pot and boil it for 10-15 minutes on low flame. This will release the saponin into the water and form some foam.
Strain the mixture well. Now after soaking the hair and scalp well, apply the water and gently massage it with your finger tips. Finally, rinse thoroughly with clean water. After a few weeks, you will notice the difference.
