Tezzbuzz Desk After the rally of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, the controversy over the alleged purification ritual has increased. In this case, Haldwani Kotwali police has registered an FIR against unknown people and started investigation. The investigation of the case has been handed over to SP Crime Dr. Jagdish Chandra.
The matter is related to Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani, where a rally of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was organized on August 8. It is alleged that on August 10, two days after the rally, some people allegedly performed a purification ritual in the same ground. The photos and videos made during this period went viral on social media.
A complaint was lodged with the police on behalf of advocate Anju regarding this incident. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under sections 196 and 299 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) as well as section 3(1)(r) of the SC/ST Act. The complaint alleges that caste-based discrimination and social humiliation was promoted through the alleged purification incident.

Police are now investigating the viral videos and pictures. Also, efforts are being made to find out who were the people involved in the purification ritual. The complaint also mentions an allegedly edited or AI-generated video. Along with finding out the original source of the video, the police will also investigate whether it has been tampered in any way or not.
It has been told that the complaint in this matter was given on August 15. After this, the police have now registered an FIR and started formal investigation of the case.
Kharge raised the matter in Rajya Sabha
After the purification controversy, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha. He had demanded action against those allegedly performing the purification ritual. After this, Rahul Gandhi also raised this issue in a press conference in Delhi.
At the same time, after Rahul Gandhi's press conference, two youths, who were said to be involved in the purification incident, had filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi under the SC/ST Act in Haldwani.
The matter has gained political significance even outside Uttarakhand. On September 4, former Vice President of Tribal Congress T.R. On Ramappa's complaint, zero FIR was registered against BJP leaders in Bengaluru. Sections of the Protection of Civil Rights Act, SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Indian Judicial Code have been mentioned in the complaint.
