New Delhi: An important high-level meeting is going to be held between India and Russia before the 18th BRICS summit to be held on 12-13 September in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold bilateral talks on September 11. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed the meeting between the two leaders. He said that Russia considers its strategic relations with India very important.
Discussion on trade in Rupee-Ruble also
Peskov also mentioned the continuously strengthening economic ties between India and Russia. He said that a major part of the trade between the two countries is now happening in national currencies i.e. Indian Rupee and Russian Ruble. This indicates efforts to promote economic cooperation between the two countries. Apart from security and defence, cooperation between India and Russia also continues in many areas like energy, space, transport, science and technology. The top leaders of both the countries are in constant touch with each other and bilateral relations have strengthened further in recent times.

Issues related to India-Russia trade and investment may remain important in the meeting between Modi and Putin. Indian companies are keen to expand their business in the Russian market, while Russia also wants to expand its products and businesses in India.
Apart from this, there is also a possibility of talks between the two leaders on the ongoing military conflict and the current situation. The increasing tension in the Gulf region and its impact on the global economy may also be included in the agenda of the meeting. Russia has already expressed concern about the impact on energy supplies. Both countries can also discuss increasing cooperation in projects related to international transport corridors and logistics.
World's eyes on BRICS conference
The 18th BRICS Summit under the chairmanship of India will be held at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. It is being considered important in terms of India's foreign policy and strengthening the voice of the Global South. Apart from Putin, during the conference, PM Modi is also likely to have bilateral meetings with other global leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping.
