Trials of the indigenous bullet train are likely to begin in May and June next year, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Tuesday. Railway Minister informed that this train will be opened for general passengers in two to four months after the start of trials. This information was given while addressing the program 'NAMO for Developed India' in Vadodara. He also said that the work of the first body frame of the high-speed train has been completed recently and it has been sent for squeeze testing.
When will the bullet train be tested?
Talking about the bullet train trial, Vaishnav said, “India's own bullet train will be on the tracks for trials by May or June next year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the bullet train after 2-4 months of trials.” The Union Minister said that the project is being built under the concept of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and it will significantly reduce the travel time between Vadodara and Mumbai. “When you travel by bullet train from Vadodara, you will reach Mumbai in just one and a half hours,” he said.
The construction of the corridor is proceeding rapidly
Vaishnav said that the construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor is progressing rapidly and the Surat-Vapi section is expected to be completed by December this year. Mentioning the major reforms in the railway sector, he also informed that the government is modernizing the functioning of railways, reservation platforms and construction norms.
36000 km of new railway line
Vaishnav explained that many pending railway projects have been completed in recent years. He mentioned the Chenab Bridge and the rail connectivity project connecting Mizoram with the national rail network. According to the Union Minister, 280 railway stations have been redeveloped and 36,000 km of new railways have been laid. He further said that freight trains based on Vande Bharat technology are also being developed. He said that despite the challenges of the Kovid-19 pandemic, the pace of development of railway infrastructure has increased. He explained that after the completion of the first phase of the bullet train project in 2020, the work on the next phase has gained momentum.
