Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has given a new uniform to his party's student organization. Student organization workers will now be seen wearing blue T-shirts and jeans and red caps on their heads. Akhilesh Yadav said that the thinking of the new generation is new, hence their dress should also be new. Earlier, Chhatra Sabha workers used to wear red shirts or kurtas. Akhilesh Yadav said on the new dress, 'The uniform only talks about socialist values. Uniform brings uniformity by eliminating the disparity arising from difference in dress. That is why it further strengthens the principle of equality of socialism. Party spokesperson Sunil Singh Yadav 'Sajan' said that blue color is a symbol of equality and socialist values. The objective is to bring together those sections of the society who are facing oppression and injustice.

Why is there so much emphasis on blue?
In India, Dalits associate blue color with their identity. This color is called the color of social revolution. In India, blue color is now being associated with Dalit politics and the ideas of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had given prominence to blue color in its flag and election symbol.
Advocate Ravindra Singh, associated with the Ambedkar movement, said, 'Bahujan Samaj Party chose blue color after being influenced by Ambedkar. Blue color represents social justice, equality and Ambedkarite ideology. For this reason, the term blue politics is often used in the context of political mobilization of the Dalit and Bahujan communities.
Dalit activist Ram Parag said, 'Blue politics is not limited to BSP only, but in many states, Dalit organizations, social movements and other political parties have also associated this color with their identity. When they try to tap the Dalit vote bank. Saffron color is often associated with Hindutva and BJP, green color with Muslim politics and blue color with Dalit politics. This is also an exercise in this condition.

What will be achieved by the blue color exercise in UP?
Bahujan Samaj Party has been the center of Dalit politics in UP for decades. The flag of Bahujan Samaj Party is also blue. The party has been politically marginalized since 2012. From 2007 to 2022, BSP's performance in the UP assembly elections has been continuously declining. In 2007, BSP won majority by winning 206 seats. The vote share had increased from 23.1 per cent in the previous election to 30.4 per cent, making Mayawati the Chief Minister for the fourth time. In 2012, the party slipped to second place and got only 80 seats, while in 2017, BSP slipped to third place, getting only 19 seats and 22.4 per cent of the votes. BSP suffered its biggest setback in the 2022 elections, the party got only one seat and the vote share dropped to 12.88 percent.
Dalits are in a politically strong position in UP. According to the 2011 census, the state's population is about 23 percent. The state comprises 12 to 13 per cent Jatavs and the remaining 10 per cent small Dalit communities like Pasi, Valmiki, Khatik and Gond. In UP, a major vote of the non-Jatav Dalit class has shifted towards BJP. Bahujan Samaj Party is losing its support base.
Akhilesh Yadav is emphasizing on the politics of 'backward Dalit minority'. An attempt is being made to give a political message through blue color that now along with Samajwadi Party, Dalits are opening the doors of their party for politics. Om Prakash Rajbhar does politics of Rajbhar community. The population of Rajbhar community is only 4 percent and their grip is also in 100 districts. He also wants to expand the scope of Suhaldev Bharatiya Samaj Party by doing Bahujan politics and is emphasizing on its representation in 23 percent of the population.
