Rajnath Singh met the President of Sri Lanka, PM Modi gave good wishes!

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo on Wednesday. During this, both the leaders discussed bilateral relations between India and Sri Lanka, defense cooperation and issues related to regional peace, security and prosperity.

After the meeting, Rajnath Singh said that his conversation with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was very useful and meaningful. On behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he extended good wishes to the President of Sri Lanka and congratulated him on the successful completion of two years of his government.

The Defense Minister said that India and Sri Lanka are civilizationally linked countries, close neighbors and important maritime partners. Both the countries once again reaffirmed that they will continue to work together for the development of their respective countries and the welfare of the people of both the countries.

He said that India and Sri Lanka will also continue to contribute together to ensure security, peace and prosperity in the region. Maritime cooperation between the two countries was also given special importance, because the geographical location of India and Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean region makes them important partners in terms of maritime security.

According to the Defense Ministry, in this meeting held in Colombo on September 9, both the leaders reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the relations between India and Sri Lanka. Both sides recognized that along with the historical, cultural and civilizational ties between the two countries, cooperation in the defense and maritime sectors is also of utmost importance in the present times.

It is noteworthy that India is continuously strengthening defense and maritime security cooperation with its neighboring countries in the Indian Ocean region. At such a time, Rajnath Singh's visit to Sri Lanka is very important. Sri Lanka is also an important partner in terms of India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy and cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.

In the meeting, both the leaders emphasized that cooperation between India and Sri Lanka is not limited to the defense sector only, but is also linked to the comprehensive development of both the countries, welfare of the people and stability and prosperity in the entire region.

Rajnath Singh, while conveying Prime Minister Narendra Modi's best wishes to President Dissanayake, conveyed India's commitment to continue its strong and long-term partnership with Sri Lanka. At the same time, both the leaders agreed to further broaden and strengthen mutual cooperation in future also.
