If you want to educate your child for free in renowned and recognized private schools of Delhi, then you have a great opportunity. Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has released the official schedule of admission to the vacant EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and DG (Disadvantaged Group/Freeship) seats for classes 2 to 9 in private unaided recognized schools of the capital for the academic session 2026-27. The online application process to fill the vacant seats in classes above the entry level (Nursery, KG, Class 1) has started from September 8. Interested parents will have to fill the online form by visiting the official portal of Directorate of Education, edudel.nic.in by 20 September 2026. After this, seats will be allotted through computerized lucky draw of lots on 24th September. Do these things before September 20 at all costs: Eligibility and Documents To participate in this transparent and lottery based admission process, some strict guidelines have been set, which are mandatory to be fulfilled before applying: Income limit less than ₹ 5 lakh: The total annual income from all sources of the family applying under the EWS category should be less than ₹ 5 lakh. Income certificate before 20th September: The applicant must have a valid income certificate issued by the Revenue Department of Delhi Government. The special thing is that this certificate should be issued before September 20; Mere receipt of application will not be valid. Ration Card Option: Families who have BPL, Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) or Food Security Ration Card issued by Delhi Government will also be considered directly eligible in this quota. Permanent residence of Delhi: Applicant must be a resident of Delhi. Ration card, voter ID, electricity bill or Aadhar card will be valid as proof of address. Strict rule of age limit (based on 31st March 2026) According to the circular of the Directorate of Education, the age of the child will be calculated considering 31st March 2026 as the base: For Class 2: Age should be 6 years or more but less than 7 years. For Class 3: 7 years or more but less than 8 years. For Class 9: Must be 13 years or older but less than 14 years. Do not make these mistakes even by mistake, otherwise the admission will be canceled. Directorate of Education has given strict guidelines to maintain transparency in the admission process: One mobile number, one form: Only one child can be registered with one mobile number. If duplicate or multiple applications are found in the name of a child, the candidature will be completely canceled even after the lottery is held. Instant Cancellation on Wrong Address: Do not fill fake or wrong residential rental address in the form to get the school of your choice. In case of difference between the address filled online and physical verification, seat allotment will be canceled immediately. Not applicable to minority schools: This process is not applicable to minority private schools. Change of school not allowed: The school allotted through computerized lottery cannot be changed later under any circumstances. There will be 10 times penalty on the school for asking for donation or fee. The Directorate of Education has clarified that no private school can ask for admission fee, tuition fee, capitation fee or any kind of donation from the children selected under EWS/DG quota. If any school demands any kind of fee in violation of the rules, a penalty of up to 10 times the capitation fee will be imposed on it and action can be taken to cancel its recognition. After the lottery, 29 zonal teams of DoE will thoroughly verify the documents of the selected children.
