In a conversation in the recent episode of Call Her Daddy, host Alex Cooper asked Alanis Morissette about her appearance in Sex and the City and an intimate moment with Jessica Parker’s Carrie. Morissette said that she had this idea to have a lesbian moment and immediately reached out to the team. She also mentioned that she was a fan of the show even before receiving an opportunity to star in it. When she told the team about her lesbian scene idea, they immediately agreed and said that they were thinking along the same lines as hers.
She added, “I think we literally had the same idea at the same time. It happens.” Further sharing about the significance of the scene, she said, “It’s amazing. Anything that opens up and pulls us out of the locked binary is a loving act, I think.”
For those unfamiliar, the lesbian moment happened during Sex and the City Season 3’s episode titled, “Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl…” In the episode, Carrie Bradshaw dates a bisexual man, Sean. She becomes confused about how to feel about her boyfriend’s sexuality. Setting aside her doubts, she still goes and spends time with him and his friends. In a game of spin the bottle, Carrie kisses one of Sean’s friends, despite initial hesitation.
Last year, in an appearance on The Howard Stern ShowParker revealed that the moment involving her character and Morisette’s was a “big deal.”
