New Delhi:The political field for Delhi University Students Union elections 2026-27 has started getting ready. Before the election contest, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has announced its central panel. The organization has nominated Yash Dabas for the post of President, Ishu Maurya for the post of Vice President, Riya Chhawadi for the post of Secretary and Lakshyaraj Singh for the post of Joint Secretary. That is, this time in the field the organization has tried to combine the experience of studies, sports and student politics.
ABVP will run issue based election campaign
ABVP has made it clear that its election campaign will not be limited to posters and banners only, but will be run keeping the issues related to students at the centre. Improvement in university infrastructure, quality education, women safety and active and accountable student union organization will be the major issues. After the incident related to student accommodation in Satya Niketan, the question of safe PG and student accommodation will also be raised prominently in ABVP's campaign. For this, the organization's 'For how long?' The campaign will continue.
Yash Dabas on the post of president: International tennis player
Yash Dabas has been given the responsibility of the post of president. Yash, a resident of Kanjhawala, has graduated from SGTB Khalsa College. He is an international level tennis player and has participated in ITF tournaments in Spain, Australia and Serbia. He has been selected for CBSE Nationals, SGFI Nationals, Khelo India and All India University Games 2023. Presently he is studying in the Department of Buddhist Studies, Delhi University.
Ishu Maurya on the post of Vice President: Experience of student politics
Ishu Maurya is the candidate for the post of Vice President. Originally from Varanasi, Ishu graduated from Satyavati College. Ishu, associated with ABVP since 2021, has been the president of the morning unit of Satyawati College and co-convenor of Students for Seva. Currently he is studying law at the Campus Law Centre.
Riya Chhawadi on the post of secretary: Basketball player
Riya Chhawadi has got the ticket for the post of Secretary. Riya, who comes from Modband village of Badarpur, belongs to a farming family. Riya, who studied at Sri Aurobindo College, is an inter-college level basketball player and is currently studying in the fourth year of the BA program in the same college.
Lakshyaraj Singh on the post of Joint Secretary: International handball player Lakshyaraj Singh is the candidate for the post of Joint Secretary. Lakshyaraj, who hails from Churu district of Rajasthan, has graduated in Political Science from SGTB Khalsa College. International level handball player Lakshyaraj has represented India in the Asian Games and World Championships. Currently he is studying law at the Campus Law Centre.
ABVP cited last year's work
ABVP National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki said that last year the students had given the responsibility of DUSU to ABVP. The organization worked throughout the year to raise and resolve issues related to students. He said that in this election the organization will go among the students with its work and upcoming priorities. Education, facilities and safety of girl students have been said to be priority.
Safe housing and 'for how long?' emphasis on campaign
ABVP Delhi minister Sarthak Sharma said students want to see who works for them throughout the year and who is visible only during elections. He said that after the Satya Niketan incident, the issue of safe PG and student accommodation has come to the fore seriously and 'for how long?' This is being continuously raised through campaigns. Now it remains to be seen whether this new panel of ABVP is able to write the script of victory by winning the trust of the students in the electoral arena of DUSU or not.
