The Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited (TTDCL) has dispatched its first major consignment of Tripura tea for international export, marking a significant development for the state’s tea industry.
The shipment, processed at the TTDCL Central Processing Centre, is being sent via Kolkata to a foreign destination. TTDCL Chairman Samir Ranjan Ghosh called the milestone a landmark achievement and attributed it to the state government’s efforts to promote the sector.
In an exclusive statement, Ghosh said, “For the first time, Tripura Tea Development Corporation has taken an initiative to export Tripura tea to a foreign country. Today, the first consignment has been dispatched after completing the necessary processing at the TTDC Central Processing Centre.” He noted the significance of the consignment’s scale, enabling Tripura tea to enter international markets through Kolkata.
He added that the corporation conducted all required quality checks and complied with export parameters before preparing the tea. “This is a matter of great pride and happiness that after many years, Tripura tea from TTDC is being exported in such a large quantity,” he said.
Ghosh also acknowledged the contribution of Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Tripura Industries and Commerce Department, in efforts to strengthen and promote the tea sector. The export initiative forms part of a broader strategy to establish Tripura as a key center for tea production and marketing.
The flag-off event included TTDCL Managing Director Engineer Rakesh Kumar Das; Tea Board of India Regional Office Assistant Director Viman Saha; social worker Sishir Kumar Das; and Industries Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, among others.
Ghosh stated that TTDCL plans to enhance the quality and distinct identity of Tripura tea while expanding its presence beyond domestic markets. “In the coming days, we aim to establish Tripura as an important tea center and further promote our state’s tea industry,” he said.
He affirmed the corporation’s ongoing commitment to producing high-quality tea, reinforcing Tripura tea’s unique identity and securing wider recognition in Indian and international markets.
The first export consignment is viewed as a crucial step in opening new opportunities for Tripura’s tea industry, with plans to build on this achievement and broaden its international footprint.
