Tezzbuzz Desk- Russian President Vladimir Putin has reached India to participate in the BRICS conference. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed him in Delhi. During this meeting, PM Modi presented Putin the Russian translation of 'Thirukkural', the nearly 2000-year-old work of Tamil saint and poet Thiruvalluvar.
Prime Minister Modi said that this book can play an important role in further strengthening the cultural relations between India and Russia. Thirukkural is counted among the greatest classical works of the Tamil language. Its exact time of composition is not certain, but it is linked to a knowledge tradition about two thousand years old.
What is special in Thirukkural?
Thirukkural contains deep ideas related to life, society, governance, morality, love and human behavior. The entire work consists of 133 chapters and 1330 couplets. Every chapter consists of 10 couplets. Its specialty is that big messages related to life and society have been given through very small couplets.
This work is divided into three major parts—Aram, Porul and Inbam.
Aram: How to live a good life?
The first part of Thirukkural is 'Aram'. In this, emphasis has been laid on morality, ethics and right conduct. Topics like truth, kindness, self-control, good behavior and responsibility towards others have been given prominence in it.
The basic message of Aram is that one should adopt good character and human values in one's life. This work, written about two thousand years ago, still inspires people to become a good person.
Porul: Lessons in Governance and Leadership
The other part is called 'Porul'. In this, views on subjects like king, governance, administration, justice, ministers, army, diplomacy, friends and enemies are presented.
Thiruvalluvar spoke at length on the criteria of responsible leadership and good governance. This is the reason why Thirukkural is considered not only a literary work but also an important document of political and social thinking.
Inbum: Love and human emotions
The third part is 'Inbam', in which love and human emotions are described. In this, space has been given to experiences related to relationships, emotions and love.
In this way, a person's character, social system, government policy and human emotions are visible together in a single work.
Has been translated into 65 languages
The popularity of Thirukkural is not limited to India only. According to the Central Institute of Classical Tamil, it has been translated into 65 languages and has reached six continents. Its Russian translation also came out in the year 2026.
By presenting Tirukkural to Putin, PM Modi gave the message of India's cultural diversity. This work belongs to the Tamil wisdom tradition of South India rather than North India. In such a situation, this gift shows the strength of strategic relations as well as cultural ties between India and Russia.
