Top seeds Katarina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend defeated American wild card pair Ashlyn Kruger and Robin Montgomery to win the US Open women’s doubles title on Friday.
Siniakova and Townsend won 5–7, 6–0, 6–2 in the final, completing the career Grand Slam as a team.
With the win Siniakova’s tally of Grand Slam women’s doubles titles increased to 12. She became the first player to complete the Career Grand Slam with two different players. She had earlier achieved this feat with her compatriot Barbora Krejcikova.
At the same time, Townsend became the sixth player among the current players to complete the career Grand Slam in women’s doubles. Siniakova and Townsend also won the women’s doubles title at Wimbledon in 2024, Australian Open in 2025 and French Open this year.
In the final, Siniakova and Townsend started slowly and lost the first set 5–7. However, both made a great comeback in the second set.
After trailing 40-30 in the opening game, he won 23 out of the next 27 points to win the second set 6-0 and took the match to the deciding set.
In the deciding set, the top-seeded pair earned an early break and Siniakova held her serve without losing a point to take a 3-1 lead.
After this, Townsend also increased the lead to 4-2 by winning a four-point service game. Ultimately, both won the deciding set 6-2 and won the title.
In the first set, Siniakova and Townsend won 13 consecutive points to make the score 4-4. Siniakova then committed three double faults while serving in an attempt to advance to the tiebreak, including a double fault on set point.
Siniakova said at the trophy ceremony, “I was very nervous, having played many finals, but in the end we managed to make it. I am very proud of our fight and our relationship. Thank you for being with me. I hope this is not the end and we will come back to play more finals.”
“To come out here as an adult and win, to play in Arthur Ashe Stadium and lift this trophy is very special to me because I don’t forget what I’ve been through,” Townsend said.
